More specifically, the purpose and mission of the Friendly Church of God in Christ is to effectively minister to people of all nations, colors, and life situations through the Word of God and through committed leadership to promote spiritual growth and victorious living.

Our Senior Pastor

Pastor Morris L. Woods is a native of the state of Texas, being born and reared in Bagwell, Texas by his parents, Rev. Milton Woods and Alice Taylor Woods.  He has one brother and four sisters of which he is the fifth child.  He attended the Siloam Baptist Church in his childhood and was active in Sunday School, Choir, and Singing Groups.  He graduated from Detroit High School in Detroit, Texas and entered into the United States Marine Corps where he served for 23 years.  He retired from the Marines in 1999 after achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4.  During his time in service he met the lovely Susan Washington, fell in love and they were married on April 18, 1981 in Oceanside California.  They have two children and three grandchildren.

Pastor Woods attended National University, East Texas College, and Mira Costa College and attained his Associates of Arts Degree in general studies.  His biblical studies were with Jubilee Theological Institute based out of Sydney Australia and Next Dimension Bible College in Ontario where he attained a Bachelors in Biblical Studies, Master's of Divinity and a Doctorate in Ministry.

Pastor Woods was saved at age Twenty-one and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost at Age Twenty-nine at Friendly Church.  This is his testimony: “I knew God had a calling on my life since I was a child.  Upon discovering the manifold Grace of God, I knew that God wanted me to spread his word.  In a dream, as I labored before the Lord for  what God's people wanted, I was awaken by an audible voice that said to me, ‘They just want to know the Truth.’  It's my desire to give the truth to God's people as a guiding light in their lives.”  He was licensed to minister and brought his first official message in March 1993 and was Ordained an Elder in the Church of God in Christ in June 1995.   During his years in the armed forces, he was able spread the Gospel of God's Grace in Australia, Kuwait, Okinawa, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and across the United States.”

Pastor Woods served the Friendly Church of God in Christ in just about every capacity, under Pastor Thomas Hammonds, for nearly thirty years.  He also served as Regional Sunday School Superintendent for the United San Diego Region and Assistant State Sunday School Superintendent.  As a deacon, he served as District Sunday School Superintendent, District Chairman of Deacons, Local Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and many other areas of service.

First Lady Susan Woods is a Nurse Practitioner by profession.  She is the youth Director for the State Sunday School Department.  She has taught children in the Local Sunday School, State Deacon's Wives, and the State Sunday School Department.  She also taught women's health in the local churches and the local High Schools and the State Women Department.  She has an endless list of talents, to complement her women’s health profession.  She’s a trained cosmetologist, an excellent seamstress, an outstanding cook and a bible scholar.  She is a licensed  Evangelist in the Church of God in Christ. She holds an MSN in nursing, and Master of Divinity and Doctorate in Biblical Studies.

Pastor Woods was appointed pastor of the Greater True Vine Temple Church of God in Christ on March 15, 2009 by Bishop Charles Blake.   He and 1st Lady Woods served God’s people honorably for near six years.  He was reassigned as Pastor of the Friendly Church of God in Christ January 1st 2015 by Bishop Joe L. Ealy.  This is the Lord's doing and its marvelous in our eyes. We're moving.

We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible written Word of God.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We Believe in the blessed hope, which is the rapture of the Church of God, which is in Christ at His return.

We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin, is through repentance, faith in the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

We believe that regeneration by the Holy Ghost is absolutely essential for personal salvation.

We believe that the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing for the human body in answer to believing prayer.

We believe that the baptism of the Holy Ghost, according to Act 2:4 is given to believers who ask for it.

We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy spirit, by whose indwelling, the Christian is enabled to live a holy and separated life in this present world.  Amen
